Go Slow Feeder Dog Bowls Help Protect A Dog From Bloat

For those of us basset lovers, we well recognize that allowing a dog such as a basset to eat too fast can cause a deadly condition called Bloat.

Bloat happens when a dog gulps food and it enters the stomach too quickly. The stomach then can twist and turn on itself. Digestive gasses accumulate in the trapped stomach and the dog literally bloats!

If not addressed by a veterinarian immediately, bloat is almost always fatal.

I should know; my family lost our first basset, Wrinkles, to this deadly disease. Back in the day, we didn’t know about the disease but, man, I sure do now!

Bloat happens, not only with Bassets, but any deep chested dog, such as Great Danes, Shepherds, etc.

That’s why slow feeder bowls (aka Go Slow bowls) were created. These bowls have a design that the dog has to eat around, thereby slowing Rover up. Some bowls, like that one there above, claim that they can slow a dog’s eating by 10x normal speed. I believe it as that’s the exact bowl we use for Dash.
