An Amazon Cloud Cam Let’s You Spy On Your Pet….
I first discovered the Amazon Cloud Cam when I was researching ways to outsmart a basset (true story).
Dash (of DashTheBasset.com fame), was always going into the cat’s room and helping himself to whatever tasty morsel he could find. And, the second he’d hear my footsteps, he’d run out.
Now, if I were nearby, he was a perfect gentleman. He would even adopt a very ‘hurt air’ if I accused him of such lowly behavior….
So, I bought an Amazon Cloud Cam as the perfect implement to letting me check up on his movements. And, it worked perfectly!
Setting up the Amazon Cloud Cam was as easy as unpacking it, plugging it in, and setting it up on our home wifi. That was all there was to it!
After the basic installation, I had the Cloud Cam set to alert me to any movement in the view – the cloud cam allows one to even block out a section of the scene so that motion will not be seen by the camera.
But, for us, the second Dash entered the cat room, I got a notification; I was THERE! A swift ‘NO’ and, after 2 short months, that basset was
cured….mostly.

And, if I knew I couldn’t get into the room, I could turn on the audio and yell at him through the camera. THAT always made him freak out!
Amazon Cloud Cams are a great addition to our root cellar and our basement. Our house was built in 1857 so it’s important to keep an eye on every room. These particular cameras are not waterproof though so they’re not the kind to put outside in weather!
You can use the Cloud Cam without additional costs but, if you want added features like personal recognition (camera can be set to NOT react to everyone’s movement in a room – perfect for a nursing home environment), or blocking a section of the scene like I did.
There’s three different subscription services you can go to get the most out of your Cloud Cam. Besides the free service, you can pay anywhere from $6.99/mo up to $19.99/month for additional features and storage.

Of course, you don’t have to go with the Amazon Cloud Cam to spy on your pup – we chose the Amazon model as it meshes with Alexa and all of our other devices. But, any of these below cameras will allow you to do that also.
