A Dog Drinking Fountain For A Basset Keeps Those Ears Dry – Mostly….
One of the endearing traits of a basset hound is those long, pendulous ears. That is, they’re endearing until the basset goes to drink water and then those long beautiful ears are just sopping wet, sloppy messes that slosh water all over everything. Dash’s ears were ruining my wood floors by spreading water all around the water bowl – and, yes, this is even with a floor protector under the dog water bowl.

My response to this messy issue was to take to the internet to find a dog water bowl that work for multiple pets (there’s five dogs running around here and a cat somewhere too), and would keep Dash’s ears mostly dry.
I looked for tall, skinny water bowls mostly to no avail. I looked at dog water bowls with guards – still no luck. Finally though, I wandered across the DogIt Fresh & Clear Drinking Fountain For Dogs – the perfect solution to my problem.
This dog drinking fountain has a huge water capacity of 355 ounces so every one of my dogs and the cat could get his or her fill from the pet water fountain without me worrying that the bowl would empty during the day. Sometimes, I’d see two or three of them drinking at the same time as the design allows plenty of room for multiple pets.
The raised design of the dog fountain was a bit too high for Dash the Basset puppy so he would lick the water this outside of the blue top water bowl. As he’s aged though, he now drinks from the top narrow bowl which keeps his ears from sitting in the water. Win!
All of the dogs love the running water of the fountain – they seem to drink more which is a very good thing. The purifying filter may be to thank for this as it keeps the water fresh and clear while filtering out impurities like pet hair or dirt.
The raised design is recommended by veterinarians, particularly on larger dogs who may suffer from bloat. It also seems to slow down Dash’s gulping so he doesn’t yack up a bunch of water after coming in from a hot day outside.
