petsmart manager giving me discount on dog toys
Huge thanks to the PetSmart Manager for giving me a discount on all these dog toys!

It all started when a dear friend of mine sent me a picture of an abused dog her organization, Charlie’s Angels, had just rescued.

That one picture was all it took. I quickly forwarded it to my husband whose reaction was ‘that’s our dog!’

Now, to us, the fact that this particular dog was in Costa Rica while we live in Maryland (U.S.) made no difference – a homeless dog was a homeless dog, wherever in the world she was! Our dog happened to be in Costa Rica and, by gosh, I would go collect her when she was well enough to make the trip home.

On May 10, 2017, I’m flying from Maryland to Costa Rica to adopt our new dog, Goldie (named after my favorite Aunt Gertie whose nickname was Goldie, and also my darling Mom who I called Goldie also).

Goldie is currently being fostered by Charlie’s Angels, the group in Costa Rica which is run by independent and truly wonderful women. They work on absolutely no funds except what is in their own pockets or what they can raise.

I’ve long been a supporter of these incredible women and their mission to save the thousands of stray, unwanted, and, abused dogs of their own beautiful country.

So, as a thanks for all the wonderful work they do, John and I wanted to give the rescue some sort of a gift when I go to pick up Goldie.

After all, these women not only rescued our new little girl pup (she was in bad shape), they cared for her, got her stronger, and even had her spayed in anticipation of coming home.

Our thought was to both thank the rescue and also bring some joy to the dogs in rescue by bringing a suitcase full of dog toys to Costa Rica when I pick up our new girl. The suitcase is filled to capacity thanks to the warm welcome I received by the Manager of the local PetSmart.

I explained our mission and she immediately offered us 50% off everything! Not only did she do give us a deep discount, but, she spent an hour with me picking out the toys, explaining which collars and leashes would work best, and even tossed in some dog treats for my own dogs.

The abandoned dogs of Costa Rica are going to have a field day! And, each one of those toys has a squeaker in it so the foster parents just may not be so impressed – this could be akin to giving a child a drum set….. But, it IS ALL about the dogs!

Few of these dogs have ever even seen a dog toy. John and I are so pleased to be able to introduce them to the finer things of life.

So, again, thank you, thank you, thank you, to PetSmart for helping me reach our goal – they’re a class operation.

Here’s a few pictures of Goldie – more to come after May 10! The women of the rescue saved the life of the girl we will welcome into our existing pack. Look at the difference in the pictures in 2 shorts months of being in their care.
